  • They Say...

Bassist Ray Drummond and an all-star group that includes trumpeter Randy Brecker, flutist Thomas Chapin, guitarist John Scofield, pianist Kenny Barron, vibraphonist Steve Nelson, and drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith perform a variety of challenging compositions, including a few veteran pieces (such as "Sophisticated Lady" and "The Intimacy of the Blues"), obscurities (Scott LaFaro's "Gloria's Step" and Tom Harrell's "Sail Away"), and a couple of Drummond's originals. Alternating some blues-oriented numbers with more complex pieces, Drummond put together a varied program that brings out the best in his illustrious sidemen.
