  • They Say...

Throughout his career, Ray Noble (who was most notable as a songwriter) generally led big bands whose main purpose was to provide classy dance music, usually sprinkled with a little bit of jazz. The 20 previously unissued (at least to the general public) performances on this CD were all made as radio transcriptions during 1940-1941. The music swings in its fashion but generally emphasizes the melodies and smooth tempoes. Inventive use of the reed section and mildly swinging adaptations of classical melodies are heard on this set, along with some fine musicianship and a few vocals from Snooky Lanson. Fine music, but do not look for much jazz here!
