  • They Say...

The live LP is only for the most ardent fans, as the set relies too heavily on Carnival of Light, and doesn't really sound all that different! Still, Live Light contains fevered moments among the older cuts. The opening "Seagull" blows away 1990's Nowhere version with a smoldering bounce and snap -- hey, this is still a ripoff of the Beatles' "Taxman," but who cares now? "Leave Them All Behind" is pulverizing in its trancelike power, the Smile collection's "Chelsea Girl" (originally from their 1989 debut import EP) uncharacteristically rages and simmers, and the overlooked Carnival B-side "Let's Get Lost" sizzles. Now I miss them even more.
