In the films of David Lynch, a rising steady drone is a sure signal that something awful is seconds away from happening. If Lithosphere was a Lynch film, it would be end-to-end catastrophes. Deeply, terrifically unnerving, Lithosphere pieces together bands of sound to create works that are simultaneously serene and surreal. Lithosphere isn't music for relaxation, it's music for hallucination. The six and a half minute title track moves from deep drops of sound to a series of long, ghostlike moans while "Melt" stretches unease to the breaking point. Rich and Boddy deliver an album-length collection of haunting bad-dream music.
