  • They Say...

This collection, like the others in the Rockabye Baby! series, proves that any melody can be morphed into a lullaby if one tosses in enough glockenspiels, vibraphones, Mellotrons and other sundry bells and whistles (literally), and on that score, this lullabization of the Eagles certainly succeeds. Arranged and performed by Michael Armstrong, the natural and frequently beautiful and elegant melodies of some of the Eagles' biggest hits are front and center, and tracks like "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "New Kid in Town" and "The Long Run" reveal absolutely beautiful and even haunting melodic structure. There's something slightly sinister, though, about turning a song about cultural moral decay like "Hotel California" into a lullaby, while performing the same soothing act on the lustful "Witchy Woman" makes it feel a bit like a creepy uncle given lullaby clothing. Hopefully nothing subliminal has been left behind, or kids subjected to this in the cradle may all turn out to mysteriously savor the California fast lane.
