They Say...
Burning Bush is a reissue label that specializes in roots reggae, rocksteady, dub, and ska of the '60s and '70s, and Roots, Reggae, Rasta is a 14-track collection of songs that can be found on their recent releases. Contained within are great songs by reggae titans like Bob Marley (a raw version of "Keep on Moving"), Lee "Scratch" Perry (a surprisingly smooth cover of the Chi-Lites' "[For God's Sake] Give More Power to the People," here retitled "Justice to the People"), Gregory Isaacs (the righteous "Rock On"), and U-Roy (the brash "Treasure Isle Skank"). A couple of the tracks are a bit weak (Jacob Miller's "Can You Handle It" and Max Romeo's puerile "My Dickie"), but not enough to sink this solid compilation. Fans of reggae should be aware of the great reggae music Burning Bush is dishing out, and this is a fine introduction.
