  • They Say...

Atom Heart's first release since moving his studios to Santiago, Chile, plummets off the deep end of Latin jazz/electronic funk weirdness hinted at in earlier releases such as Trio de Janeiro and Polyester. Similar in some respects to Latin/lounge plunderphonic collage works such as Tipsy's Trip Tease or Sukia's Contacto Espacial, SeƱor Coconut adapts percussion, piano, and horn samples to warped, mutant offshoots of mambo, samba, and rhumba rhythms, combining the resultant blur with the sort of intricately humorous digital electro-funk that runs through much of his recent work. Strange stuff that would later spark a full-blown alias from Schmidt with 1999's El Baile Aleman.
