They Say...
Sheer Terror were looking for answers to their impoverished rock star dilemma come 1994's Old, New, Borrowed & Blue EP, and they weren't above taking musical risks with their more conservative hardcore fan contingent to get them. As such, the release contained surprising elements mixed in amid the usual sonic suspects. Both opener "Walls" and leadoff single "Broken" (for which Sheer Terror filmed the only music video of their career) were staple examples of the band's ultra-heavy, mid-paced hardcore, but it's also interesting to hear traces of stoner jam specialists Clutch in their muscular grooves. Conversely, and probably because Type O Negative keyboardist Josh Silver was acting as engineer, the next two songs embarked on an oddly gothic metal trip. "Goodbye, Farewell" might as well be a Type O outtake, while a cover of former Saints man Ed Kuepper's solo track "Everything's Fine" goes one step further with dominating horn sections!
