  • We Say...

Small Sails are a Portland, Oregon four-piece that create the sort of soothing, organic acoustic electronic rock that the Album Leaf and the sadly defunct Mercury Program have been releasing for years now. That’s not a bad thing — and Small Sails certainly aren’t derivative. In fact, when you listen to Similar Anniversaries you’ll easily hear the differences — a greater reliance on the possibilities inherent in the human voice being the most important. There’s room in the world for three warm blanket pop groups, though. And judging by tracks like the mesmerizing “Somnambulist,” a folky-stomp punctuated by empyreal “la-la”’s, it might do us good to have even more.
