  • They Say...

Live in concert, Tania Maria has the tendency to stretch out simple rhythmic ideas a bit past their optimal length. Recorded at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, this club date is mostly fairly well controlled, while living up to its title. Teamed up with a hot Latin quintet (including guitarist Dan Carillo and John Purcell on alto and soprano), Tania Maria clearly enjoys going over the top on some of the numbers (six of the seven are her originals), showing plenty of spirit, although one imagines that the set would have been more exciting experienced live than on record.
