  • They Say...

Another dip into the surviving transcription discs of their 1939 XET broadcasts, which like the first volume presents the family in various contexts. The best cuts are generally those on which Sara and Maybelle handle the vocals; there are also ones by the young Carter Sisters, and a couple of instrumentals. The content isn't quite as strong on this second installment, and some of the songs are extremely short, coming to an end just when they seem to be approaching the heart of the matter. Of course, fans will still want it, because the performances and harmonies are good, and the sound quality isn't much different from the standards of officially released 1930s sessions.
