  • We Say...

Craig Klein’s obsession with Siberia is pretty easy to hear on Ice Station. The album was written to soundtrack a trip from Odessa to China and back again. You can hear it in the lyrics (song titles include “Walls,” “Evil Love,” “Crack Goes the Lake”) and the production (a brittle, dry and cold aesthetic takes precedence). What isn’t explained in the coldness, however, is how easily this album is able to melt hearts. The aforementioned “Walls” is actually a simplistic love song that’ll have you humming its chord structure long after its over and “The Shortest Way to China” may just be the catchiest song to reference the Communist country since David Sylvain beat on his tin drum.
