A strong ambient debut from Ghostly

  • We Say...

For me, Gas' ambient classic Pop remains the be-all and end-all for ambient music. The magnification of slight changes, the implied rhythms of found sounds, the beautiful intricacies of so very little. That was the moment when ambient and minimalism best coalesced, for me anyway. All of which is a bit of a daunting introduction for this Sight Below record from Ghostly — except that those qualities referenced before are all over this beautiful sigh of a record. In addition, the Seattle-based artist slips in more rhythm than you might expect, using blinking basses and other implied beats to merely suggest that deep in this shifting fog, there's an anchor after all.
