  • We Say...

In 1991, mere months before his debut record was set to be released, Tracy Lawrence was shot four times in a Shoney’s parking lot. The resulting record was hugely successful (one #1 single, three more went top ten), sadly due in no small part due to the publicity surrounding the story. Careers aren’t built on narratives, though — the reason that Lawrence continues to win fan’s hearts is simple: the music’s great. That’s certainly the case on For the Love, the first album on his own Rocky Comfort imprint. Lead single “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” mines his classic rock-tinged honky tonk style, while “Speed of Flight” is a steel guitar lament for a departing ex-lover. Elsewhere, “Just Like That” is a rollicking two-step and the title track even features Three Doors Down’s Brad Arnold. With tracks like these in abundance, it’s a wonder that Lawrence didn’t strike out on his own earlier!
