  • We Say...

For an eclectic sampler of Stiff's formative era, these 18 songs pretty much cover the waterfront, omitting the front-line talent for the colorful also-rans who filled the label's catalogue. In addition to an essential single each from Dirty Looks, Mickey Jupp, the Equators and Desmond Dekker, there's the Members' superior punk ("Solitary Confinement"), the Yachts' uber-new wave ("Suffice to Say") and Mick Farren's rabble-rousing "Let’s Loot the Supermarket (Like We Did Last Summer)." If that's not enough, there's plenty more to like in tracks by such exemplary Stiffs as Jane Aire, Larry Wallis, the Tyla Gang, Pink Fairies and Billy Bremner.
