  • They Say...

Black Music picks up where 2001's The Night Watch left off, as both a sampler and teaser of the material released and reissued by LTM. Since 1990, James Nice's label has acted as a tremendous resource for those with a longing for post-punk and early indie pop that history has otherwise neglected. This compilation focuses on the some of the releases that came from the label during the early 2000s, and it has the followers more in mind than anyone else -- numerous exclusives are scattered throughout, in addition to a number of tracks from forthcoming releases. Just when you thought LTM couldn't dig any deeper, they've harvested another crop of long-deleted releases -- in this case, from the likes of Artery, Department S, Biting Tongues, the Passage, Royal Family & the Poor, Crawling Chaos, and Paul Haig -- to rescue and faithfully restore. Though the majority of the bands Nice has preserved are second-tier, you have to consider the era during which they existed -- an era that spawned dozens upon dozens of spectacular and wildly creative acts. (The second disc contains a live performance from Crispy Ambulance.)
