If your cat could make layered, slowly-evolving and beautiful space-rock, this is what it would sound like.

On her very-appropriately-titled second solo album, Honey Owens continues to make languid, sexy music that's a fine accompaniment to late night drives with no set destination. This album, by the sometime-member of Jackie-O and Dark Yoga, evolves in unexpected ways and rewards the patient listener. Owens is every bit as inventive and in love with the intersection of melody and experimentation as her celebrated poster peers like Panda Bear and Atlas Sound (in fact, she was a member of Bradford Cox's touring version of Atlas Sound in 2008).

But rather than cop from the Beach Boys or Pixies, Owens takes a more elliptical route. As with Brooklyn's Blues Control, there is a strong Royal Trux influence at work, but Naked Acid never sounds like either an homage or a rip. It's lovely but just a little bit frustrating — it takes repeated listens to figure out what's happening. If your cat could make layered, slowly-evolving and beautiful space-rock, this is what it would sound like.
