This volume contains two gems and many choice goodies. If you're not touched by the Emanons' "One Heart," you need a checkup. The Temptones' "Goodbye Baby," done falsetto by Daryl Hall, sizzles. Hall (who later exploded with Hall & Oates) sings it sweet like Eddie Kendricks, but for some reason it stayed shelved for more than 30 years. The Ballads' "It's Magic," the Enkays' "Say Yes," and the Agents' "You're Everything," are nearly as magical. The talents of Ronnie Walker (who also recorded as Fletcher Walker III) are showcased on nine tracks, including "Really, Really Love You," "Thanks to You," "I Believe in You," "Precious," "Guess I'll Understand," "In Search of Love," and "Didn't We." Philly Soul Volume 1 also features tracks by Clarence Williams, the Exceptions, and the Royal Five. An informative booklet with rare pictures completes the package.
