  • They Say...

Applying their slick cosmopolitan attitude toward world music to the world of remixing, Luaka Bop offers a diverse collection of electronic landscapes and club tracks on Luaka Bop Remix. Playful and cheeky are the ways most of the remixers here take the tracks, likely feeding off the warm effervescence that's at the core of so many Luaka Bop artists. Don't try to pick between the clever Fila Brazillia or the hyper Scratch Perverts remixes of Clinton's "Buttoned Down Disco," because they're equally as good and both incredibly fun. The Funky Lowlives' remix of Si*Sé's "The Rain" is the delicious lounge throwback you'd expect, and both Masters at Work and Carl Craig deliver deep rhythmic cuts worthy of their lofty dancefloor reputations. Adding some meat to the fun fluff is John McEntire's twisting and turning treatment of Tom Zé and One Rascal's grooving treatment of Shuggie Otis' "Strawberry Letter 23."
