An early, important step in the evolution of country
This collection shows the next step in the evolution of country, as professional performers, many of whom had radio shows, began to put out records of their own compositions or souped-up folk tunes in the late '20s and early '30s. The Stoneman Family, Eck Robertson, Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers, and other acts were now touring the South and making good money doing it. There's even a significant pointer to the future, with the Blue Sky Boys, the first of the brother duets, a tradition which would continue at least through the career of the Everly Brothers.
