  • They Say...

This Original Broadway Cast Recording is a good example of the kind of music that can be vital and exciting in a theater and redundant on disc. Five Guys Named Moe is a musical revue with the thinnest of story lines, the music for which is taken from the repertoire of jump blues star Louis Jordan, who filled the R&B charts with songs like "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" and "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" in the 1940s and '50s. It makes for a delightful theater-going experience, but on record it has to compete with Jordan's originals, and it doesn't. Also, this show originated in the West End, and there is a London Cast album that is virtually identical.
