  • We Say...

Shooting the moon in Hearts — the card game — requires a delicate balancing act. For a long time in the game, you have to pretend like you're playing normally, like everyone else. And, then, when it becomes clear that you're not, you have to be lucky enough to be holding cards that will neutralize everything that your fellow Hearts players try to do in defense. That metaphor was long, but also instructive in explaining exactly how We Shot The Moon's music works.

Fear and Love, the quartet's debut album, is full of simple pop songs that appear completely innocuous at first, but upon repeated listens begin to worm their way into your every day life. Whether it be "Sway Your Head"'s can-do chorus ("You've gotta pull yourself back together/ Give it one more shot/ It's now or never"), the stunning piano ballad "Tunnel Vision" or "Hope"'s message of, well, hope, you'll find that no matter what cards you may be holding when listening to We Shot The Moon, they won't do much when confronted with the powerful, air-tight pop constructions on Fear and Love.
