  • We Say...

Montreal duo Woodhands like to bash it out. The ten songs on their debut full-length Heart Attack emerge from the same dark electro-thrash ooze as fellow Canadians Crystal Castles, but the live drums and stretched-out song lengths keep the disc from getting too heavy-handed. The sounds and signifiers are all there: synth squelches aped straight from Gary Numan (or maybe Blank Wave Arcade for these youngsters), heavily vocoder'd vox and rat-a-tat dancepunk hi-hats -- we've heard this before. But the pulse and sweat of these tracks are undeniable; check the raging "I Wasn't Made for Fighting" or the layered slow-jam (by Woodhands standards) "I Can't See Straight" for immediate highlights.
