A magnificent work

rasher52

A splendid interpretation of this truly great symphony. Pettersson's 7th is his most popular symphony because of its wonderful lyrical 'big tune' after some 25 minutes but it is a fabulous symphony, unquestionably the work I have listened to more than any other in 40+ years of loving classical music. Perhaps this interpretation cannot replace the famous Dorati version of the 60's for purely historical reasons, nor the live Comissiona/Swedish RSO but it is nonetheless a first class disc and sits very well alongside the outstanding 8th, 10th, 3rd and 15th symphonies from BIS. Can anyone explain to me the neglect of this great composer? It baffles me! Listen a couple of times and you're 'hooked'!

Haunting

Timbre

Symphony No. 7 is hauntingly beautiful in places, and darkly emotional in others. It is a tonal work, albeit with a modern flavor. It took me a couple of listens to get hooked, but now I listen to it quite a lot. The performance and sound quality are excellent.
