fado is great
this is a powerful album, unlike singing I've heard elsewhere. Very powerful and emotive. Makes me think of low-ceilinged, smokey cafes and beautiful, dancing, dark-haired women and men.

Amalia Rodrigues was one of my favorites for a long time. I had given up hope to find more from her outside Portugal and here she is. Now please, please also get some music from Christina Branco: http://www.melomusic.nl/index.htm with samples of her fados. Breathtaking!!
I downloaded this album, by an artist I had not previously heard of, shortly after it appeared on this site and so I was serendipitously introduced to the magical world of the Fado. Since then I have explored many of the highways and byways of this beautiful and moving Portuguese singing tradition but, for all the treasures I have discovered on the way, I don’t think that anything quite compares to this classic album. Listen to the snippets from Red Rose, April and Song of Viana and see if you are not prompted to download the full album even if, like me, you do not understand Portuguese. Come on, emusic, lets have more of the Fado!
If you only know Portugal for its port wine, or maybe not even that, then you need to hear this album.
