solid

Arnold

This is one of those albums I listen to over and over and over. Very solid. "The Only One" and "The Postman" are particularly good.

best american analog set

this is my favorite american analog album, the lo-fi low impact is done so incredibly well. a great album start to finish.

Aptly Titled

godonlyknows

I don't know why I hadn't heard of this band sooner than I did, but I stumbled upon them here and downloaded this album and another one in full two years ago. This one remains my favorite and is my go-to "background music" album. The lyrics are worth paying attention to, to be sure, but the thing that gets me about this album is not only that it seems it simply isn't one that you ever tire of listening to, but that it fits your mood no matter what mood you're in or even if you don't know what mood you're in. This is a gem.

a gem

tancilivich

more concise and melodic than other AAS releases, which is not a bad thing at all--i'd say this is darn near perfect.

This became one of my favorite albums after 2 listens, and has remained so ever since.

Stunning from start to finish.

If you're new to this band, this is the one to get. If you like it, go off and explore their entire catalogue now that eMusic has it all! Rejoice! Also, a minor note: technically it's "The American Analog Set" not just "American Analog Set", so you may want to correct your tags accordingly if you're fussy like I am.

This entire album is SO easy to listen to. It has a subtlety that deserves praise.

You can't go wrong with this album. Don't waste your downloads on some flighty newcomer-- American Analog Set always bring it.

pretty good

I heard about these guys after they signed to Arts and Crafts. I downloaded this album, and I like it. In fact, track 1 Punk as Fuck is absolutely amazing which is a weird thing to say about a mellow tune, but it is amazing. I still listen to the album now and then. I didn't find this album as great as the reviewers below me but it is certainly worth the $3 to download this album.

Great Album

aesop7

This is the best album I've found on emusic. Great songs, great keyboard sounds. I felt this album right away with Punk as Fuck, and all the songs are good. Never heard of these guys anywhere else. HIGHLY recommended. Want a taste? Get Down to Earth, The Postman, and Punk as Fuck. Then download the whole album. Then all their albums.

They Say All Music Guide

On Know by Heart American Analog Set plugs along in their characteristic lo-fi manner, with hypnotic guitars, mellow basslines, and careful lyrics by Andrew Kenny. Its rolling melodic lines and subtle textures continue in the vein of their previous albums and in the direction taken by its predecessor, Golden Band. Know by Heart culminates with “Aaron and Maria,” a foray into crystalline, driving-tongue-in-cheek platitudes. And songs like “Punk as Fuck,” “The Postman,” and “Know by Heart,” where Mark Smith’s skittering drumwork provides the spine for a kinetically downbeat sonic experience, epitomize American Analog Set’s penchant for straightforward minimalist elegance. – Travis Drageset
