Rise is a four-song, 15 1/2-minute CD single containing the title track, which is culled from the American Music Club’s Everclear album, and three non-album tracks. “Rise” is one of the album’s more accessible tunes, while the additional numbers are some of Mark Eitzel’s more esoteric compositions. “Chanel #5″ is a portrait of a woman taken at a funeral tempo, “The Right Thing” is a country two-step telling a tale of doubtful romantic commitment–”It don’t take much of the right thing,” Eitzel notes–and “Crabwalk” is another slow crawl through the nightclub world, among other things. Inessential, but the cult will want to know. – William Ruhlmann
