Solid Power Trio Work

ciriarte

I downloaded this album after discovering Mr. Timmons' earlier effort (That Was Then ... ). While that album tended to be a showcase of bombastic guitar shredding (but still a good listen), I found Resolution to be a solid ensemble piece. One could be excused for thinking "The Andy Timmons Band" (Timmons on guitar, Mike Daane on bass and Mitch Marine on drums) merely a shred-monster backed by some session players, but this really felt like an ensemble. OK, Timmons can't resist struttin' his chicken-picken' stuff on [UntitledTrack], but cut the guy some slack, eh? What really struck me about this album is it really showcased the trio format. There's no mysterious fourth player ala Cream, where Mr. Clapton lays a lead guitar over his previously recorded rhythm part. Here, it's three instruments, and you never miss the other guitar; all the more remarkable as there are no vocals. Props to Mitch Marine for his well thought out drumming that lays a broad, solid foundation to these tunes.

Excellent guitar. If you like Marc Seal, Voodoo Six, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Judas Priest, etc, you'll like these guys.
