Review by Cape Dog The Poet on The Banksta

EMUSIC-0221E411

The "Bay Area" was doin' it in the 90's. I remember when I first heard Ant Banks...I knew he had to be dope being down with Too $hort and Spice 1. Plus Banks was comin' with that Real Playa sh**...talkin' about hustlin' gettin' money, ridin' vogues and mackin' honey's...somethin' the Cape can relate to. Bank's beats and funk samples was always on point. This album will always stay in rotation...No doubt!

Since Ant Banks’ albums are always uneven, the release of The Best of Ant Banks was welcome indeed. Boasting 16 tracks, including such Banks hits “2 Kill a G,” “Roll ‘Em Phat,” “Money Don’t Make a Man” and “Spice 1 wit Da Banksta,” the album distills all of his best moments onto one disc, making it the most consistent and entertaining record in his catalog. – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
