The Lake

This is a great EP. The title track is just pure beauty, and one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. If you already have the track, be sure to visit Antony's website and watch the animated video. It's brilliant. 'The Horror Is Gone' is also a great track. It reminds me a lot of Roxy Music. The album cover is also a work of art.

Loud Screams of Anger and Disbelief

Bmer

Downloaded The Lake last weekend which is absolutely fabulous. Came back a week later to get the other tracks to find it wasn't available in the UK. I cannot believe the music industry's concerted efforts to destroy the industry and turn lovers of great music into pirates. Not only do we get a limited selection of tracks in the UK but we pay £8.99 a month instead of just $9.99 in the US. Please, please treat us a bit more reasonably.

Excellent B-sides

Trrricky

The Lake is an Edgar Allan Poe poem set to music that does the poet justice indeed. It is one of Antony's strongest songs anywhere in his catalog, and is every bit as essential as anything on I Am A Bird Now. The Horror Has Gone is very very strong as well and it's pretty, simple structure makes it a strong candidate for the song to get stuck in your head for the day.

Tender absurdism

Sllyputti

The fragile tones of an undercooled piano, near freezing, combined with a high pitch throat voice wich brings tears of emotion to my eyes... and after the tears, the sweet confirmation that the world is a more beautifull place in wich this sweet sorrow is possible.

36 Songs To Soothe the Pain

By Wondering Sound Staff, Contributor

Whether you're happily married or told Cupid to shove it a long time ago, we can all agree on one thing: to quote the one-and-only Nazareth, "Love hurts/ Love scars/ Love wounds/ And mars." Or something. That's why we went ahead and compiled a list of 36 Songs To Soothe the Pain, from the bloodletting confessionals of Neko Case, Bright Eyes and Sunny Day Real Estate to the melancholic melodies of Sigur Rós, the Shangri-Las… more »

Six Degrees of Grace

By Karen Schoemer, Contributor

It used to be easier to pretend that an album was its own perfectly self-contained artifact. The great records certainly feel that way. But albums are more permeable than solid, their motivations, executions and inspirations informed by, and often stolen from, their peers and forbearers. It all sounds awfully formal, but it's not. It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »
