Top Notch

Average-Nights-Jack

If you don't know the beautiful voice (from Crooked Still & others) then you've missed something rare and spine tingling. Try to see her live, as she brings life and joy to her performances (as I witnessed earlier this year at The Sage, Gateshead in a Transatlantic Session with Jerry Douglas & his band of musicians from both sides of the Ocean). This is her first full solo album (I think) and it is pure class. Not one duff track. Great songs, superb production and that beautiful voice. Just download it, you won't regret it.

Fossils - Aoife O'Donovan

bklein

You may know her vocals from the bands Crooked Still, Sometymes Why, Wayfaring Strangers and the Goat Rodeo Sessions. A wonderful songwriter, she has a unique voice, and the technical skills and emotional depth to take you where you want to go! 'Red & White...' is as good a Summer anthem as you'll hear this year.

When I heard the NPR interview she did last weekend, I knew I just had to get this album! Ms. O'Donovan is truly a wonderful artist, as both singer and songwriter. I am not a fan of Alison Krauss (her voice register is cavity inducing!), but loved the lyrics for "Lay My Burden Down". I am so very glad to hear the song as the songwriter intended it to sound. Absolutely Wonderful!!! I just can't believe it's taken so long for Ms. O'Donovan to get her debut, but I have to say it has been well worth wait. I look forward to more from her in the future.
