You can make a new sound without slowing down

EMUSIC-02563DC2

Okay so this was my first Arctic Monkeys album and I had heard only a handful of their other songs like "Teddy Picker" and "When the Sun Goes Down". I heard "She's Thunderstorms" and thought it was a good start, but by the time I got to the end I came to the conclusion that this album was just too slow. I wouldn't mind if 50% of the album was still slow, I just wish they had covered a more dangerous side of the album. When I really got into these guys, I learned that there sound changes on every album. That's cool, but when your known for songs like "The View from the Afternoon", "Brianstorm", and "D is for Dangerous" you shouldn't slow all your new songs down. People just want a little more, not a whole album, of a variety between the songs. All in all it's still an awesome album, it just bugs me that the guys who created "Favourite Worst Nightmares" kind of slowed down.

Continuing a downward trend

EDog

These guys had a fantastic debut and peaked, for my taste, with their sophomore album "My Favorite Worst Nightmare." They tried some different production on Crying Lighting. Then they produced this turd. Suck It and See lacks the fun, wit, and energy that made the Monkeys' earlier releases so appealing, and instead has a pomposity and snarl that isn't enjoyable to listen to or all that original.

That's not a skirt girl that's a sawn off shotgun

Their best album to date,a batch terrific songs, with some of the hyperactivity of their earlier albums tempered a bit. Fans of middle period Bunnymen will like this a lot. Alex Turner may be the most idiosyncratically genius front man since Morrissey. Highly recommended.

Who Are…Ghost Wave

By Hilary Hughes, Contributor

Inking a record deal is a major milestone for any band, but when it's with the quintessential indie label that's touted the talents of some of your country's favorite alt-rock icons, it's a distinction on another level. That's exactly what happened to Ghost Wave with Ages, their full-length debut. In New Zealand, Flying Nun Records has been the revered home of incendiary alternative rock, punk and reverb-ridden noise since 1981 — and the paradoxical perfection… more »
