As Heard on The Verge

ekandl

You know you have a great find when you hear 5 songs from the same album on XM's The Verge and you love them all. "No Champagne Socialist" is probably one of the best songs I have heard in quite some time. "John Lennon" is just so catchy! I'm hooked.

Great new discovery!

JimboJabber

Saw these guys play last night and they're fanTAStic live! Great energy and enthusiasm, not to mention great songs. They hung out at their merch table afterwards and incredibly nice guys to boot!

Best Rock Album I've Heard in a While

EMUSIC-00910020

This album has great hooks, solid lyrics, sing-along melodies, and a great sense of momentum. It's one of the best albums I've heard in a while.

Solid Canuck Pop

arjay

A very solid pop album -- one of the best acts I saw at SXSW 2009. As Paul Ford wrote in his six-word review, "best lyrics of all the A's." Power-chord instrumental verses can get a little tiresome, though.

Big rock and roll fun

MJBarz

For me, big drums, big guitar and big vocals = big rock and roll fun. And the Arkells sure deliver. Nice energy. Engaging blend of ska, pop, punk and rock.

Jackson Square is the debut full-length from Hamilton, Ontario five-piece outfit Arkells. With a sound built around energetic indie rock mixed with a soulful Southern influence, not unlike early Maroon 5, Arkells made a splash in 2007 with their blazing single “Oh, the Boss Is Coming!” from their debut EP, Deadlines, and a year later Jackson Square continued in the same vein. – Sergey Mesenov
