Overrated
This record seems to be regarded by many as the coolest thing on the block. Well, the one-two punch of 'Beat and the Pulse'/'Young and Gay' was an undeniable high point of 2011, but if you found 'Lose It' just 'cute', then like me you'll think the rest of the disk sadly cloying. Really, from a musical point of view the melodies are stilted and obvious - many are the discs that borrow heavily from times past but take them somewhere fresh. This doesn't manage to do that. It's like listening to 'Speak and Spell' Depeche Mode, but less fun - I'll wait till Austra reaches her 'Violator' phase. I'll admit 'The Beast' is an awesome piece of chamber pop, but as a whole, overrated.
