3 NEW ONES & 1 RE-RECORDING BETTER THAN ORIGINAL

MELODYMAN

The professional review above is, unfortunately, quite mistaken about several points. Three of the tracks are new to this album: track 9(early 70's blues club style), track 10 (late 50's "black" pop style), & track 13 (beautiful re-working of "GK & the Pips" classic). Nothing here is a re-working of any Thomas's work from the 80's decade. Two tracks (#11 & #12)were done only 2 years previous (2000) to this album (track 11 is virtually identical to the original). Track 14 is a vast improvement over the original mid-70's album cut. No huge string sections here, but the rhythm section & synthesizer arrangements measure up quite well. And B.J. Thomas, due to his ongoing touring & pride of performance, has a voice still strong & stylin'! If you want a bit of B.J.Thomas' latest new material & some good alternates of his 60's & 70's greatest, you'll like this album.

Sargeant BJ's karaoke lonely clubs band

Handyartist

I really love many of Mr. Thomas' songs. I can't complain much as the price is low for these synthesizer music accompaniments that makes this so karaoke sounding. The music sounds like the cheap karaoke discs for the machines Costco was trying to sell last Christmas. Still some classic stuff here for cheap though. Not too bad.

What a voice...after all these years, bj still has one of the greatest voices of our generation...listen to "back against the wall" or the new one "you call that a mountain". FANTASTIC!!!

With the glut of B.J. Thomas greatest-hits packages available, it’s difficult to know what contains the actual hits and what are second-rate re-recordings. Unfortunately, Greatest and Latest falls into the second category. While this compilation mixes tunes from his late-’60s prime and early-’80s comeback, they are not the arrangements that have been etched into the memories of anyone who ever heard them. “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” without the Burt Bacharach arrangement sounds flat, even though Thomas’ voice is in fine shape. If you want the late-’60s original hits from the Scepter label, pick up Greatest Hits on the always trustworthy Rhino label. For the ’80s material check out Best of B.J. Thomas: New Looks and Old Fashioned Love on Razor & Tie. – Al Campbell
