One of the overlooked masterpieces of its era

digaman

"People" is a brilliant album -- one of the great albums of the 90s. The songwriting is fresh and smart, the playing is tight and inventive, and the singing and harmonies are exquisite. If you like Ida or Poster Children, you might love this band. Babe the Blue Ox were simply better and more creative than most bands that became superstars in their generation. So why didn't they? I haven't the faintest idea, and consider the fact that they're nearly forgotten one of the great tragedies of the contemporary music business. They had it all -- all except for the success they deserved.

Thank you eMusic!!!

I had all BOX's CDs before the 'great Cd sell off' after I left college and needed cash (sniff, sniff). I saw them a number of times in Athens, OH and loved their shows. Great band, great song writing. Just when you think you have the song figured out, they throw in a left turn to rip your head off. Hate to make the comparison (due to the female bass player connection), but if you dig Poster Children, you will dig these guys (and girls). The off-key / odd time signature stuff rocks. Their vocal harmonies are excellent, too.
