Mediocre Piano Repertoire
Moon's piano music is profoundly average; she seems to me to have little interesting to express, and the music is rarely exciting rhythmically, harmonically, or melodically. It also has always struck me as very cliched. Of course, that's just my own opinion. It's just that there's so much amazing piano repertoire out there that it's hard to justify spending a significant number of downloads on this album. But if you like whole-tone scales, parallel fifths, moments of quasi-minimalism, fragments of pretty melody, and a pervasive sense of improvisation, you might enjoy this album. Moon is not a bad pianist, and the sound quality is respectable; a few works are worthwhile (Inter-Mez-Zo is fun and the Toccata is engaging, for example). Overall, though, this is definitely not essential.
