Beautiful singing!
I'm in love with Mehta's singing! Really enjoying this disc, all tracks are beautiful. Not happy with the sound, though - sounds like there was one mike for Mehta, and the orchestra sound drifts around from behind him. I would like to hear more clarity in the orchestra. Perhaps I have been spoiled by listening to Les Boréades with Karina Gauvin (Henry Purcell arias). If you open a second window with that recording, you can compare back & forth and see how this one is lacking in acoustic transparency compared to the ATMA recording. My other disappointment here is that the ensemble playing seems a bit approximate, and I only say that because I find it bothers me while I'm listening. René Jacobs has done phenomenal things in the past, and I love the interpretations here - maybe they lacked rehearsal time. I'm listening to this a lot anyway, -Mehta is a dream singer, in terms of vocal production, agility and emotion.
