Bedroom/Dorm Room Classics

Peacenik

It's the sound of a sensitive guy hiding in his dorm room, or, even better, his suburban bedroom on Christmas holidays. Maybe that's when I listened to it? Anyway it captures that spirit perfectly. It's inspiration for any DIY'er starting out to hear such beauty, simply recorded and executed.

Melancholic but touching

glenn.oneil

As far as I know, this was Ben Watt's one and only solo work before joining with Tracy Thorn to form Everything But the Girl. The songs are basically Ben Watt and his guitar - the songs are quite touching, such as song 8. Long time no sea with the title track, song 7. North Marine Drive more uplifting. It's a shame that Ben Watt never sung more with EBTG. Their song, "The Night I Heard Caruso Sing" which he sings on, is one of my favourites. 24 years on, I hope one day we hear more from Ben Watt (and I don't mean mixing or dejaying!)
