BRITINUS

One-stop shopping for the reggae/lovers rock aficionado, as you are treated to a sampling of Beres' hits from more than one album. Love songs that express every sentiment and emotion are sung sweetly over timeless riddims. The only thing that gets better than this is the actual live performance which should not be missed. There are too many wonderful tracks to single out just one or two favourites, so plan to let each disk play and you will find yourself "Giving Thanks" as you "Rockaway" to the cool and deadly "Dancehall Vibes" from an artist who is always "One Step Ahead" of other artists. Big up to the guest stars! Crowd of people, "Ain't it Good to Know" that artists like Buju and Beres can join together make such "Sweetness". Even at the end of these two disks you will find yourself asking "Can You Play Some More". Beres, I am big 'bout you!

Good Luck With Your Family Band

By Dan Zanes, eMusic Contributor

it's no secret that starting a band is a pretty good idea. i recommend a family band if you have a family around but maybe you don't, so all right, why not round up a few people in your neighborhood. if you play instruments that's great but if not, you can just sing. it's still a band. the crucial ingredient is spirit and a willingness to try something new with other people. the only other thing you'll… more »

They Say All Music Guide

Can’t Stop a Man collects some of Beres Hammond’s biggest Jamaican hits, beginning with his first, “One Step Ahead” from 1976, a song produced by Willie Lindo. Moving chronologically through to 2003′s sweet and infectious “Dancehall Vibes,” which features Big Youth and is one of the highlights here, this two-disc set is a wonderful introduction to this woefully underappreciated singer and writer. With a voice that combines Marvin Gaye’s subtle phrasing, Sam Cooke’s easy charm, and the soulful power of a David Ruffin, Hammond has a talent for graceful, easy-flowing lovers rock, but he has also effortlessly managed to work light dancehall and hip-hop elements into his work, giving him an uncommon longevity in the ever-shifting sea of styles that is the trademark of Jamaican music. Key tracks here include “Last War,” “Who Say” (with Buju Banton),”Sugar You Want,” and “Rockaway,” a fond reminiscence of the island’s roots era. Lovingly packaged, Can’t Stop a Man includes track-by-track annotation and discussion. – Steve Leggett
