Not the same as the CD

It took me a while, but in the course of listening to and reading about this work I gradually realized that the MP3 edition of tisis site and others is a 10-song highlights release, but there exists a 22 track CD version of this. This is a great recording so I may eventually have to acquire the full version.

Haitink and LSO on top form. Sumptuous sound in this glorious work. Don't miss it!

Rightly acclaimed.

This recording has rightly been acclaimed in most quarters. I think that this will be a bumper anniversary year for LSO Live with the Gergiev Romeo and Juliet and his Rachmaninov symphonies being released. This recording is possibly the best sounding release of all from this source. It is a huge score and every detail can be heard. I don't think there has ever been a better advocate of this genius work. The sound of the LSO is very much moulded by Haitink into a central European one. I also like the use of trumpet vibrato and antiphonal violins. The bass is vivid and the lower brass instruments are caught very well. Wonderful music, wonderfully performed!
