Betty Carter - "Her Jazz Greats 1955-1960"

jazzrulz

"Be-Bop" Betty Carter is the template for Jazz singers, or as Carmen McRea reportedly said, "..."there's really only one jazz singer - only one: Betty Carter." Carter was one of the fist singers, male or female, to apply voice to the improvisational aspects of jazz in general and be-bop in particular. This album is an introduction to a jazz vocalist/stylist/musician that set the standard for the genre. ... and $4.40 for 41 tracks of Betty Carter is an amazing deal!

Her Jazz Greats (1955-1960) Betty Carter

terrirolland

41 tracks For $4.40? Fantastic deal. Betty Carter in her early days doing the classics. This body of work, plus the great great album she did with Ray Charles, gives you a glimpse of a musical genius in the making. Buy it.

The usual frustration: where documentation

Caponsacchi

It's doing neither the artist nor the younger public any favors to put out "historic" anthologies without any specific dates, original album sources, personnel on various tracks, instrumental solos, composers and arrangers. Admittedly, sometimes that information is missing even on cheap "hard-copy" reissues, but the listener at least stands a better chance of gaining this essential information.
