We will miss you, Biscuit

TexSquid

Randy "Biscuit " Turner died Thursday in Austin, Texas on the same day he appeared on the cover of the Austin Chronicle, a weekly culture newspaper. Randy was the front man for the seminal punk/funk band the Big Boys and a noted artist. Biscuit and the Big Boys taught us it was okay to be a punk and still laugh about it. My first exposure to Randy and the band was at the old Studio 29, where you brought your own beer and you made your own fun. The music was great but it was secondary to the idea of people getting together and having a great time. From his time fronting the Big Boys through Cargo Cult and Swine King and all of his art, Randy "Biscuit" Turner made a statement. That statement was his embrace of life and his ability to create an aura of "FUN,FUN, FUN" !

Goner Records Radio

So it's no surprise that their station is going to be full of gritty goodness, both from their own label vaults and the artists that inspired them. So dive into the world of Goner, and read more about them in our label profile. more »

They Say All Music Guide

If you disagree with me and are of the opinion that the Big Boys could do no wrong, than this anthology (compiled by celebrated hardcore producer Spot) runs the gamut from grubby-sounding demos to slick selected outtakes. Fairly coherent, this set does little to elevate The Boys’ reputation, but is as strong an historical overview as is likely to ever be released. – John Dougan
