very big business
I can see a correlation between the various stages of Big Business's progression as conveyed through each of its releases. On "Head for the Shallow", the bands debut, one can hear the same heavy pounding, energetic brand of metal that is a constant throughout their reign. The duo belts it out on "Shallow" and it is certain to grab your attention at the very least. Somehow, this album lacks the sort of qualities that make their sophomore release so notable. When left uncompared, "Shallow" shines even brighter. Often, this sound is exactly what new listeners are looking for - the raw new beginnings of greatness, i.e. work that is often less developed or produced, but that can be sited as the most honest and unadulterated offering. I personally prefer "Turn on the Waterworks", but do find this release has its own merits and it does well when I have a hankering for something heavy.
