Great 80s Album (pre Chicago)!
I remember picking up this album way back in the 80s because I loved the song "Sara" so very much. I was quite surprised to find out the rest of the album was pretty darn good! Sure, today in the "00s" some of it has that somewhat dated sound and production, but Mr. Champlin can certainly sing quite well...lotta soul and r&b in this cat's blood! One tune "Gotta Get Back To Love" sounds a lot like vintage EW&F but that doesn't make it any less memorable. Bill is great on the ballads ("Tonight, Tonight" the aforementioned "Sara", "The Fool Is All Alone") but his uptempo tunes are strong and well produced, too. About the only tune I don't particularly care for is the bluesy "Stop Knocking On My Door". Don't miss Kenny Loggins' background vocals on "Take It Uptown". All in all a fine collection of tunes which I listen to quite often.
