Norwegian producer’s arctic ambience in its purest form
Label: Touch / Kudos Records Limited

Soft static-drenched, repetitive, lilting, electronic in origin but organic in feeling, Biosphere's version of electronic music eschews the from-another-planet model to make music that sounds like it came from beneath the earth or inside the trunks of mighty redwoods. Like dub with the intensity buffed to a soft sheen.

Interlude Music from the 'Black Lagoon'

etripper

Biosphere creates a dark moodiness that abounds on this particular album. As though, something is amiss amongst the shadows, or that a dark phantasm, perpetually haunts for some long-perceived wrong. Your never sure what's about to happen, and your imagination plays tricks with the conscious mind. An interesting diversion for Biosphere, yet as always, well-done. It is both strange and wonderful at the same time!

Haunting ambient soundscapes

chock

Haunting ambient soundscapes of some sort of very large, futuristic industrial biomachinery repetitively droning away in the dark at low, rumbling frequencies. It's quietly disquieting while meditatively building up fear and distrust. One of the best discs in this genre.

Lovely, dark and deep...

...and yet still grounded - unlike Autour De La Lune.

One of Biosphere's finest moments

The dark ripples on the album cover say it all. .

Great

Awesome album, darkish in tone, but still delicate and capable of depth. I listen to this on the train and while I'm at work trying to answer emails without interruptions. The samples never devolve into boring repetitions, drawing you further and further in with each iteration.

Pretty solid release

A quarter of these tracks are *really* good. I mean *really*. The rest are also quite good, but allow the quarter to capture the moments they deserve, without being uniformly attention seeking.

travel through dark spaces

another brilliant album by Biosphere. He really captures vast casms in time, all a little dark and machine like. Its not here on emusic but definitely get a hold of his album Substrata from 1997, incredible stuff.

A top notch ambient cd created largely from samples of Claude Debussy. Quiet, subdued, mysterious & enchanting.

The Mountain Goats Dozen

By John Darnielle, eMusic Contributor

Sometime over the last couple of years I've gone from thinking that nothing could ever really be too fast or too loud to craving an all-purpose available-anywhere immersion tank. I seek out trance states, dark rooms and a good pair of headphones. The sort of thing that gets peddled as useful in this regard (stock-art CDs with names like Calming Moods), though, is usually pretty insulting to the intelligence. "Relaxed" should not be a synonym… more »
