troubled youth?!

kmdman32

When i look back on all the crazy things i did growing up, i can recall every wonderful song and how they connect to an instant moment in time. This album in particular sticks in my mind as well as end of silence by rollins band as deeper meaning records with a lot of thought but not pretentious and you can still fight or fuck to them! as i am in my late thirties now, i have forgotten more than i will probably remember; however, this one always brings me back to a time before bills, jobs, hard times, women, pain and anxiety!Back when the world was evolving on what seemed like a daily basis, ole' henry had our backs, and we will always remember the first time we snuck out to hear the bootlegs or got in trouble for playing our "garbage" too loud! rock on rebels!

One of the Greatest Records Ever Made

BC1976

This isn't metal. This isn't hardcore. This is a very very hard form of rock with jazz undertones and it's utterly brilliant from start to finish. Flag fans who bag on this record as being a 'sellout' and 'not punk' need to grow up and get some perspective.

Nothing like the early records; still great

bobbly

This later period Black Flag stuff gets slammed a lot, and it is very different from the early stuff. I still really like it, and this album is the best of the period. It's more like Sabbath than anything else with its sludgy production and slow to mid tempos, but I like Sabbath. Download the first two tracks plus Drinking & Driving, and see if you enjoy those. If you do, get the whole album.

They Say All Music Guide

Hot on the heels of the live record came Loose Nut and In My Head, which showed significant improvement over My War and Slip It In. Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn were exploring by-now standard lyrical themes: hate, paranoia, loneliness, anomie, and violence, but framing them around music that was demanding, powerful, and exciting. In My Head is the slightly better of the two, primarily because it’s a little edgier and uncontrolled, but at this juncture, Black Flag was making some of the best contemporary rock music extant. – John Dougan
