Hardly any details exist of the life of Blind Roosevelt Graves. Similarly, little information has survived about his recoding career. Between 1929-1936, Graves was a solo artist who went on to form the Mississippi Jook Band in 1936. This release collects all 21 of Graves’ surviving sides as a solo artist and, as such, virtually replicates Document’s release of his complete recorded works. There’s little incentive to opt for this release — the sound quality has not improved significantly (if at all), nor are the liner notes as informative as Document’s. Most fans interested in Graves would be better-served by the definitive Document release, although this would be an acceptable budget alternative. – Thomas Ward
