Its called a harmon mute. Sound quality isn't TERRIBLE on song 2, although its not perfect. other songs sound fine, great album too.

Sounds fine to me... and you're right, it's great music.

Bad Sound?

Zoot

I haven't downloaded the entire album, but did listen to a clip of track 2. The sound is very bad - extremely thin, with what sounds like wobbling in the muted trumpet passage. Maybe it's just the clip, or SSS, but I hesitate to waste downloads on it. My speakers aren't great, but they're good enough to hear what he's talking about.

Question to "SomeNick"

paulgoodness

How in the world can you gave this 1 star anf this is a EMusic Pick? Somebody is lying. I'm getting it and if it's good you owe somebody an apology.

Unbearable quality

SomeNick

I advise you not to download this one. The quality is just not good enough, especially track number 2. A shame because the music is great.

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

The first HUGE new release day of 2012, so strap in and get ready for a pretty comprehensive rundown! Dave Sumner's got your jazz picks, and I've got the rest. Here we go! Cloud Nothings, Attack on Memory: ALBUM OF THE DAY. Dylan Baldi grows up in a nanosecond, making a snarling rock record that hurtles forward with the speed and fury of a meteor. The sonic touchstones here are '90s emo greats like Jawbreaker, the… more »

They Say All Music Guide

This early recording by Blue Mitchell finds the distinctive trumpeter in excellent form in a quintet also featuring tenor saxophonist Benny Golson (who contributed “Blues on My Mind”), either Wynton Kelly or Cedar Walton on piano, Paul Chambers or Sam Jones on bass and drummer Art Blakey. The consistently swinging repertoire includes a surprisingly effective version of “When the Saints Go Marching In.” “Studio B,” recorded in the same period but formerly available only in a sampler, has been added to the program. It’s an enjoyable date of high-quality hard bop. – Scott Yanow
