A Classic...
from a criminally under-appreciated band (at least in this country). More 5-star songs in my iTunes from this album than almost any other.

... had been invited to the Basement Tapes, it might have sounded like this. Every Bros-like harmonies, sterling hooks, musical chops galore (go, Basil, go!) and a sense of solid craftsmanship that skipped the self-indulgence so many of their alt-country contemporaries lack (Hello, Ryan! Hello, Wilco! Hello, Uncle T.) makes this arguably the best album (so far) of Blue Rodeo's career. Other than their Greatest Hits album, I can't think of a better introduction for American listeners. My picks? "Till I Am Myself Again" and "Montreal" (of course). But there's isn't a dud in the bunch.
I bought this album (on vinyl!!) way back in the day when it first came out. I LOVED this band! I was in Toronto for a long weekend vacation, and ended up staying 2 extra days when I found out they were playing a show the following Wednesday...my boss back in Michigan was not amused, but I was NOT going to miss seeing them live! I was psyched to see all their music here, so I can take it with me everywhere!
This is another great Blue Rodeo album. More rock, and less heartbreak. "Two Tongues" is amazing, as is "Trust Yourself", and "Last Laugh". "After the rain" was a well deserved radio hit in Canada. In fact, there isn't a bad song here.
Bought this on CD when it came out in Canada, we had never heard of Blue Rodeo before then. This is our favorite CDs, well worth getting. So few people seem to know about this band, yet they create wonderful music with a wide range of sounds. We are really glad to see them on eMusic now (and with CDbaby), hopefully their music will get around in the US now.
